Breastfeeding multiple babies can be a challenge. There’s twice (or three or four times!) as much demand for your milk and your time, and you may wonder how you’ll handle it all. Here are some tips to make breastfeeding twins, or more, easier:
- Talking to other mothers of multiples can help. They can commiserate with you, and offer advice you may not have thought of yourself.
- Don’t worry about producing enough milk. There’s twice as much of a demand for your milk, but your body should respond with a greater supply. If you’re still not producing enough, check out “Increasing Your Milk Supply.”
- If you’re nursing two babies at once, try different nursing positions: the football hold, the cradle hold, or a combination of the two works best.
- Pillows can help you get in a comfortable nursing position.
Lastly, if you can, get some help. A relative, spouse or mother’s helper can take care of the burping and changing while you are doing double duty with the feedings. Remember, there’s only one of you!
